Security is the major issues of wireless ad hoc network because of its dynamic and infrastructure characteristics. Wireless network is a collection mobile nodes and each node behaves like host or router which are capable to determine the route for the packet but that nodes can get compromised from the security threats such as blackhole, wormhole, Sybil and denial of service attack etc. Black hole attack is one of active attack which advertises itself as having the fresh or shortest route to destination and then drop them.

Internet is a widely used technology for the data communication in present days but as per increasing the demand of internet number of attackers also increases in the same proportion. To ensure the security of the network a powerful intrusion detection system is required. The aim of IDS system to continuously monitoreach and every activity which are occurring over the network and also provide accessing to the users.This paper proposes and IDS using KNN classifier and Genetic Algorithm for network with good feature reduction technique.
